Brits would insure pets and phones rather than their lives

Few Brits prioritise life, critical illness or income protection insurance – and those that do have cover seldom check if they have correct cover.

That is according to a survey by Friends Life, which found that while 9% of Brits would automatically take out mobile phone insurance and 14% would have cover for their pet, only 6% would take out income protection cover and 10% critical illness insurance.

Income protection cover pays out if you are unable to work due to illness or unemployment; critical illness cover pays out if you are diagnosed with a serious condition. Both are often sold as adjuncts to life cover.
